St. Pauli is leaving Twitter due to the social network`s current policies. The German football club`s X account has 250, 000 followers. He has been active since 2013.
Since Musk`s acquisition of Twitter (previously called Sports), he has turned X into a hate machine. Racism and conspiracy theories spread unchecked or even curated. Insults and threats are hardly punished and are presented as supposed freedom of speech.
In addition, after his election victory, Donald Trump announced that he would appoint Musk as head of the new department. Already during the election campaign, Musk actively supported Trump, including with the help of X. It can be assumed that X will also promote authoritarian, inhumane and right-wing materials in the Bundestag elections, manipulating public discourse.
St. Pauli has already limited the use of X, publishing mostly political statements in support of diversity and inclusion to counter hate. The club will now cease all activity on X. The account will no longer be used, however content from the last eleven years will remain available due to its historical value.
The Club thanks its members for their critical discussion regarding the use of X and encourages its subscribers on the platform to switch to BlueSky. FC St. Pauli`s English-language account will also soon launch on BlueSky, the club advised by questions insider soccer tips said in a statement.
